A toddler is in critical condition after she was hit by a truck while her mother was pushing her in Browns Plains, south of Brisbane.
The child, named Evelyn, was taken to the hospital with serious head injuries.
The incident occurred at around 8:30 am at Webber Drive and Browns Plains Road.
The child’s mother was not seriously injured. Lorraine Eggers, who witnessed the incident, said she saw a child and a stroller on the ground.
The police tried to piece together the events that happened before the collision by gathering dashcam footage from a nearby tow truck.
Phil Hughes from the Queensland Police said they did not know what caused the accident.
The police are appealing for witnesses who may have dash cam footage to come forward.
They noted that the truck’s driver immediately performed first aid to the child.
Other people also helped at the scene.
Pedro Cuitavuki, who witnessed the incident, said the mother was obviously upset.
He said they were shocked by what happened.
