Phil Andrew, a former FBI agent, said that he’s worried about the disappearance of Perth brothers Callum and Jake Robinson.
He noted that one of their phones was reportedly in the hands of an individual.
Also, Jack Carter Rhoad, an American friend of the brothers, went missing while driving in Baja California.
According to reports, three individuals have been arrested as the family tried to get to Mexico.
On Friday, Andrew told the hosts of Sunrise that the phone found in the hands of a third person was very worrying.
He said that this new piece of information could affect the investigation.
Andrew noted that the Robinson brothers are in a remote and difficult-to-police area, and there have been reports of an increase in crime.
He said that given the time that has passed since they went missing, it’s possible that they were kidnapped. He also noted that the arrests could lead to other information being obtained.
It’s also important that the authorities locate the people who have a connection to the Robinson brothers’ disappearance. However, he noted that it’s very unlikely that they’ll be able to successfully negotiate a ransom.
It’s also very challenging to establish a safe communication link with the kidnappers. According to their loved ones, the group was last seen at K38, which is a well-known surf break in the area. They didn’t check in to their Airbnb reservation. Callum, who is suffering from diabetes, has not been able to return to work in San Diego.
Jake, who is a doctor, reportedly traveled from Perth to join his brother on a surfing trip. Their mother, Debra, has also reached out to the public through social media to ask for help in finding the pair. She said that the family hadn’t heard from them since Saturday.
I would like to appeal to the public to contact me if they have seen the Robinson brothers or if they know their whereabouts. According to Western Australia Premier Roger Cook, the situation is very distressing for the families of the individuals involved. He noted that sending people overseas for an adventure holiday is very risky.
One of the missing individuals reportedly has a medical condition, and the Premier is concerned for their welfare. In 2015, two WA surfers were killed in Mexico. They were reportedly shot by local gang members in the volatile Sinaloa region. Their bodies were burnt.
