After a controversial segment during an interview on Sky News, Peter Stefanovic apologized to Keegan Payne, the 19-year-old who won the Million Dollar Fish.
The Northern Territory teen was asked about his past during an appearance on the First Edition of the network’s program.
During the interview, Payne admitted that he stole a vehicle three years ago.
His former boss, Bob Cavanagh,said that there were no hard feelings toward him. He also said that Payne was a good kid.
The segment was widely criticized online, with some calling it disgraceful.
On Friday, it was revealed that Stefanovic’s social media accounts, which include Instagram and X, had been taken down.
In response to the incident, Sky News Australia released a statement saying that they have apologized to Payne and his family.
The statement noted that the apology was made on behalf of both the network and Stefanovic.
During the interview, the presenter asked Payne about his past. He then confirmed that he stole a vehicle from his former workplace.
According to Sky News Australia, Mr. Payne’s former employer stated that he didn’t proceed with the police charges and accepted his apology.
The network and Stefanovic also apologized to the teen and his family.
