Authorities in Mexico have revealed that the two Perth brothers who went missing in the country were shot in what they believe was a robbery gone wrong.
The bodies of the Australian brothers, Jake and Callum Robinson, and an American named Jack Carter Rhoad, were found in a well.
Three Mexican nationals, including a couple of brothers, have been charged with kidnapping.
The police believe that the Robinson brothers were attacked at their campsite in the Mexican state of Baja California.
It’s believed that the suspects tried to steal their van before a struggle occurred. They were eventually arrested after they were found with drugs and one of the missing individuals’ phones.
As for the parents of the missing brothers, Debra and Martin Robinson, they are currently on their way to Mexico to see if their sons are truly dead.
The bodies found in the well had been in a state of decomposition. Due to the lack of evidence, the authorities have started conducting genetic tests to identify the victims.
On Thursday, a spokesperson for the prosecutors in Baja California said that they were interrogating three individuals in connection to the case.
An official said that investigators were at the campsite where the missing individuals were last seen. She also stated that there were a lot of important pieces of information that the authorities were not able to share publicly.
Despite the presence of drug cartels in the area, the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
We are currently unable to provide any additional information regarding the case. Ari Gase, one of the individuals arrested, was 23 years old.
The phone was recovered by the police after it was turned on. It reportedly pinged a local cell tower to track its location.
According to witnesses, they saw more drug activity near the beaches, but they were afraid to speak out due to safety concerns.
Three bodies were found by the ocean about two kilometers away from where the campsite of the missing individuals was located.
A fourth body was later discovered during the same search. According to the local police commander, the Mexican authorities believe that the last place the missing individuals were seen was the well.
