Residents of a community in Adelaide’s western suburbs said they were shocked after learning that a 5-year-old girl died on Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to a residence in Ballater Avenue in the Seaton around 4 pm after reports of an unresponsive kid.
Grant Stevens, the commissioner of the South Australian Police, said the girl was taken to a hospital before she died.
It is very tragic to lose a child’s life, Mr Stevens said. Officers from the Major Crime unit were sent to the scene to carry out an investigation.
However, they are yet to confirm if the death is suspicious. A family member said the death was not a police matter.
According to the family member, no one did anything wrong. The news of the child’s death was reportedly terrible for the family, as it was very close to them.
One of the neighbors said she heard a lot of yelling and saw ambulances and cars outside her house.
She said she initially thought something was seriously wrong.
South Australia’s Premier Peter Malinauskas referred to the death of a child as the worst nightmare of any parent.
He said it is very alarming whenever a child dies in an unexplained manner.
