The family of Kye Schaefer, who was killed on a beach near Coffs Harbour on May 2, were relieved to hear that a murder charge had been made against the suspect.
The 21-year-old surfer was stabbed to death while he was putting on his wetsuit at the Ocean Parade carpark.
Schaefer died in hospital due to his neck and chest wounds.
A 36-year-old man was arrested at a correctional facility at Coffs Harbour and taken to the local police station where he was charged with the murder.
