A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for the South Coast of NSW.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, Sydney and the Illawarra will be affected by heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.
Areas near the Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, and metropolitan regions may also experience significant rainfall today and tomorrow.
There’s a chance that some areas could receive rainfall totals of between 50 and 100 millimeters over six hours.
Isolated totals of up to 150 millimeters are possible in the 24-hour period.
Some regions, such as Nowra and Jervis Bay, are experiencing heavy rainfall that’s expected to continue until this evening.
The firefighters of the NSW Rural Fire Service’s Huskisson brigade were able to rescue a man who got stuck in floodwaters in Woollamia this morning.
He was assessed by paramedics after they freed him from his vehicle.
The brigade urged people to avoid driving through floodwaters and obey road closures during severe weather.
The conditions are expected to improve across the warning area as the trough moves south and weakens throughout the rest of Friday.
A flood watch is in place for some parts of Sydney, the Central Coast, Illawarra, and South Coast.
The rain that’s expected to fall from today’s trough could cause additional catchments to flood.
