The deaths of four individuals at a house in Broadmeadows, north of Melbourne, early on Tuesday morning are being investigated as a result of an apparent drug overdose.
Emergency services were sent to the address at 2.20 am after a woman, a teenage boy, and two men were found dead inside the house.
Dean Thomas, a detective, said that the victims, who were believed to be 37, 32, and 17 years old, were from different backgrounds.
He noted that the authorities were trying to establish the connection between the four individuals and the people who lived at the house.
According to Det Insp Thomas, the bodies of the four individuals were found inside the lounge room.
He noted that it was possible that the deaths were caused by a drug overdose.
He also said that it was very unusual to find four individuals dead in the same location.
Det Insp Thomas said that it was possible that the victims died due to a drug overdose.
He also noted that there were various items in the house that could be related to illegal substances.
However, he said that the crime scene examiners were still conducting a thorough investigation.
Despite the injuries that they sustained, Det Insp Thomas noted that police did not believe that the deaths were the result of a violent incident.
He said that the group was last seen alive at around 2 am by a neighbour.
The discovery of the bodies of four individuals at this house was very unsettling and distressing for the victims’ families.
One of the victims was a resident of the Broadmeadows house, while the others were visiting.
Detective Insp Thomas said during a press briefing that there were at least three people known to law enforcers.
He appealed to anyone who may have information regarding the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.
Corey, the uncle of one of the victims, made the gruesome discovery after he went to the house to check on his nephew.
He told Nine’s Today that he broke a window to enter the house after seeing the teenager lying on the floor.
He then identified the other three people who were in the house as his brother-in-law and two of his neighbors.
The man, who came home, said that he was shocked and tortured by the incident.
He told the news outlet that his nephew, who was 17 years old at the time of the incident, was the father of a child.
He speculated that the deaths might have been caused by a drug overdose.
Members of the distressed family reportedly embraced each other as they entered the house.
A report on the incident will be prepared for Victoria’s coroner.
