The debut of Dancing With The Stars’ new season got off to a rocky start on Sunday night, as the show’s judges gave Ben Cousins a harsh reception after he attempted to perform the foxtrot.
The 46-year-old former football player, who was heavily involved in drug scandals during his time with West Coast and Richmond, partnered with his professional dancer, Siobhan Power.
Although the judges gave him positive feedback, they were not impressed by his rigid posture and nerves during the performance.
According to Sharna Burgess, while the performance was not smooth, she wanted to see more of him getting out there.
Judge Helen Richey also warned him that she would not be easy on him, as she expected somebody of his talent to do what she asked of him.
Craig Revel Horwood agreed with the assessment, and told him that his posture was too forward and that he looked like he was presenting it to the public.
Mark Wilson tried to help him improve his posture by taking him on a dance floor to demonstrate the techniques.
It had been encouraging so far, which meant that he might not have expected much of a walloping from the judges.
After receiving three scores out of four, Cousins was left stunned by the results.
Despite his positive feedback from the judges, he was still not happy with his scores.
He noted that there was still room for improvement.
At the bottom of the leaderboard, was Cousins, with less than half of the points that Lisa McCune, the night’s best-performing celebrity, received.
