In preparation for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, Australian flags will once again be displayed on Woolworths’ shelves.
This comes after the supermarket chain was criticized earlier this year when it revealed it would not stock certain products ahead of Australia Day.
The company’s decision to remove the flags from its shelves caused uproar among customers and prompted Peter Dutton, the opposition leader, to urge people to boycott the company.
Brad Banducci, the company’s CEO, had to issue a plea to his customers to treat the team with dignity and respect
. In response, the company noted that it would soon be offering a hand-held flag made from durable materials such as polyester and timber.
In a note, the company noted that it would sell the flags in its stores in preparation for the event.
It also apologized to the customers for not being able to offer Australian-themed products earlier this year.
As a proud Australian company, Woolworths has acknowledged the expectations of its customers by offering them the opportunity to purchase the country’s flag when they shop with the company.
To celebrate the upcoming Olympic Games, the supermarket chain will also be releasing a limited-edition range of products that are designed to commemorate the event.
In addition to the regular Australian flags, the company will also be offering hand-held flags made for the Torres Strait Islanders and Aboriginal communities.
These will be available in all of its stores throughout the year. Big W also sells desktop flags of the three nations.
