A gunman and a supporter of Donald Trump died after they were shot during a political rally in Pennsylvania.
The incident occurred as Trump was speaking in Butler, about 30 miles from Pittsburgh. According to the US Secret Service, the shooter was able to shoot multiple shots from an elevated position outside the venue.
According to US law enforcement officials, the gunman was believed to be around 20 years old and from Pennsylvania.
Two other individuals were critically wounded in the shooting.
As the shooting started, Trump ducked under the stage. He said he felt a bullet hitting his ear.
He later thanked the US Secret Service and the other law enforcers for their quick response.
Trump also expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and the people who were injured during the incident.
After hitting the floor, Trump immediately fell to the ground. He was immediately surrounded by the Secret Service agents and was taken down to the stage.
Trump was then tended to by the agents before he was taken away in a vehicle. After getting covered in blood, Trump shouted “fight” before he was taken away.
According to the Secret Service, Trump was now safe and was being taken to a medical facility for evaluation.
A spokesperson for Trump’s campaign said the incident was being treated as an assassination attempt.
A photo posted on social media showed a building that was about 150 meters from where Trump was standing. It appeared to be a rifle and a body.
According to reports, some of the people who witnessed the shooting tried to alert the authorities about the shooter.
FBI special agent Kevin Rojek said the gunman’s motive was not clear. He also said that there were multiple suspicious packages around the area where the shooter was located.
The bomb disposal units of the FBI and the Pennsylvania State Police were immediately deployed to check these packages.
George Bivens, the head of the state police’s criminal division, said that they were looking into whether or not other people were involved in the attack.
Trump was photographed giving a brief wave as he was leaving his plane.
