The ceremony, which was held for the Olympic Games in Paris, was heavily criticized after one of the acts that was performed during the show angered viewers.
The four-hour ceremony, which began on Saturday, featured various performances by musicians and dancers along the River Seine.
As the criticism about the river decision continued to grow, one particular act in the middle of the show caused quite a bit of controversy.
During the segment, a table was set with drag queens. One of them appeared to be wearing a crown on her head.
Although it wasn’t exactly clear what was happening at first, it quickly became clear that the table was being used to recreate Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting of Jesus and the Twevle Apostles.
The scene quickly went viral, with many people calling the act an attempt to insult the Catholic community.
Clint Russell, a podcaster, noted that the opening of the ceremony was crazy, as it featured men in drag instead of Jesus and the disciples.
According to him, there are over two billion Christians on Earth, and the Olympics wanted to make a loud and clear statement about their non-acceptance.
Matt Walsh, an author, also noted that the show was a demonic attempt at mocking the Christian faith.
Other controversial moments were also brought to the forefront during the ceremony.
One of these included a tribute to France’s sexual proclivities, which shocked viewers.
