A massive earthquake occurred in NSW, Australia, on Friday afternoon.

According to Geoscience Australia, the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.0 and was felt in the Upper Hunter Region, which is about 250 kilometers north of Sydney.

The mayor of a town called Denman reportedly thought the roof of his house might cave in due to the powerful earthquake.

According to Steven Reynolds, the mayor of Muswellbrook Shire Council, he was sleeping when the house shook.

He said that he immediately thought that the roof of his house had collapsed.

He then believed that there could have been severe damage caused by the earthquake.

The mayor noted that the town was still experiencing aftershocks.

He noted that there have been three aftershocks since the earthquake.

One of these caused a power outage in South Mussbrook.

Although there have been no reports of damage in the region, the mayor said that people should only use the triple-0 number to call in emergencies.

According to the mayor, there have been some sirens going off in the town.

He urged people to check on their neighbors and make sure that everyone is okay.

The Bureau of Meteorology, however, noted that there was no threat of a massive tsunami following the earthquake.
