Sharyn Ghidella, who was dumped by Channel 7 after 17 years as a newsreader, has issued a final message to her boss.
She says she is returning to Australian television and will be presenting the new 10 News First program on Network 10 in Queensland.
During an appearance on The Project, the 57-year-old newsreader gave her former employer a final message.
“Don’t call me at the hairdressers … that wasn’t the cut I was expecting,” she joked. “Seriously, I mean look, there’s good people at Channel 7, I had a good run there … It was good until it ended.”
She said she was very happy with her time at Channel 7, and despite her sacking, there were still good people in the company.
She also said she was excited to be back at Ten, and she would be presenting local news in Brisbane.
She said it was a great opportunity to return home, and she started her career with Ten in Brisbane in 1990.
She noted that her hair had gotten bigger, and shoulder pads had gotten bigger.
Martin White, the head of Paramount in Australia and New Zealand, had posted a LinkedIn message welcoming Ghidella back.
White stated that they were very excited to have her back and that she would be presenting the best possible content for the audiences of Queensland.
She will replace Sandra Sully, who has been the presenter of the Queensland bulletin for the last couple of years.
Ghidella, who has been a journalist for almost four decades, announced on her Facebook page that she had been asked to depart from the Seven Network.
She had worked for the network since 2007. Before she became a weekend presenter at Seven, she had previously worked for Channel 10.
In her Facebook post, she stated that it had been a long time coming, and that she was surprised by the way her career ended at Channel 7.
She said that she was at the hairdressers when she got the news that her time with the company had come to an end.
Despite her sadness at being let go, she stated that she was still able to feel some relief. The recent weeks in television have been very sad.
