Hundreds of sheep died in a truck fire that broke out in the early hours of Saturday in NSW’s far west.

The animals were on their way to be transported by a road train when the incident occurred at Girlilambone, which is about 545 kilometers west of Sydney.

The fire was put out by firefighters, but the incident still claimed the lives of the animals.

The driver of the train, who was not injured, is being investigated.
