Bankwest is closing its last branch in Western Australia, which is a devastating blow to the community.
The bank, which is part of Commonwealth Bank, revealed earlier this year that it was phasing out its traditional branch network due to the changing customer behavior.
One of the customers who has been affected by the bank’s closure is Lyn, who has been with Bankwest for over 30 years. She said it was sad to see the company go out of business.
She noted that the bank started out as a service provider for farmers before it was acquired by Commonwealth Bank.
The decision to close the bank has been condemned by many people in the community.
They expressed their anger at how the institution was limiting their access to services and cash.
Many of them said they were worried about the elderly, who might have a hard time adapting to the new technology.
One Perth resident said that he was hoping that Bankwest’s customers would take revenge after experiencing the bank’s poor customer service. He said that he spent several hours trying to resolve his father’s banking issues.
Another individual stated that they were disappointed with how the bank closures were affecting the community in Western Australia.
The Mandurah Forum branch, which is located almost an hour away from Perth’s CBD, is among the last of the city’s 24 closures this year.
Fifteen of the bank’s branches remain operational in Western Australia, and they’ll be converted into Commonwealth Bank branches by December.
Bankwest has been operating in the state since 1895.
