The first phase of the Golden Plains Wind Farm in Victoria, which is the largest in the southern hemisphere, was officially turned on.
According to Lily D’Ambrosio, the project will provide over 700,000 homes with electricity once it’s fully operational.
The farm, which is situated at Rokewood in the southwest of the state, is expected to be completed in three years.
The 1.3 gigawatt wind farm is expected to produce over 4,000 gigawatt hours of electricity annually, which will meet about nine percent of the state’s energy needs.
D’Ambrosio noted that the project will help lower the electricity bills of regional Victorian families.
The Golden Plains Wind Farm is one of the many projects that will help drive the development of the renewable energy sector in Australia.
It’s expected to create around 700 jobs during its construction. Up to 70 additional jobs will be created during the operation of the farm.
