Jackie O Henderson, who revealed last week that she had been struggling with drug addiction for three years, announced that she would donate a portion of her book’s profits to charity.
The radio personality, who is also the co-host of Kyle and Jackie O on KIIS FM, released her memoir entitled The Whole Truth on Tuesday.
In her memoir, Henderson talks about her struggles and checked into the Betty Ford facility in 2022.
She tearfully stated that she had been addicted to various drugs, including sleeping pills, alcohol, and painkillers. She delivered her story by reading excerpts from her memoir on air.
In her Instagram post, Henderson noted that although she was able to afford the luxury of going to Betty Ford, other people who need help cannot. She also thanked her fans for their support. She stated that she had been moved by the messages from people who were struggling with similar issues.
Although she was able to get the help she needed, not everyone can afford to get treatment. That’s why, as a part of her memoir’s sales, a portion of the profits will be donated to a rehabilitation center in Australia known as Odyssey House. The organization, which is 47 years old, has facilities in Sydney and the Southern Highlands.
In her post, Henderson stated that the work that the organization does is powerful and transformative. She additionally thanked her fans for sharing their stories and said that she would continue reading their messages to respond to them. During her time with addiction, she said that she felt like she was lost and alone.
According to Henderson, her lack of self-esteem led to her feeling vulnerable, insecure, and heartbroken. She stated that she tried to escape her feelings by taking the coward’s way out. Only a few of her friends knew about her issues, and Kyle Sandilands learned about her situation during the show last Thursday.
In her post, Henderson noted that she did not want her fans to know about her past struggles with addiction until she had finally gotten clean. She said that her addiction was unlike anything that other people had experienced. However, she noted that she was open to discussing her issues because she had brought it up herself.
She stated that she was excited to be more authentic after three years of hiding her substance abuse. She entered a 12-step program at the Betty Ford Centre. She said that she had consumed her last tablet the day she checked into the facility. She explained that the staff members thought it was too dangerous to attempt to quit.
Henderson, who is 49 years old, said that she had various reasons for her addiction. However, she did not go into detail about her issues during an interview. She stated that she kept her problems secret for so long because it was so frightening. She eventually decided to share her story in order to help others.
