According to reports, two prominent Brazilian influencers died after a boat capsized near the coast of So Paulo on September 29.
Only five of the seven people aboard the vessel were rescued. The bodies of the other victims were later recovered.
One of them was identified as Aline Moreira de Amorim, 37, while the other was Beatriz Silva da Silva Faria, 27.
During an interview with G1 Globo, Marcos Alexandre Alfino, the city’s police chief, cited a statement made by the boat’s caption, which indicated that the two women did not wear life jackets because they were taking photos.
He noted that they might have prevented sunburn by wearing life jackets.
G1 Globo reported that Amorim posted photos of herself on her social media accounts while out at sea, and her brother stated that she did not know how to swim.
Brazilian media also reported that the two women who died were not acquainted with each other prior to their trip.
According to reports, the incident occurred in the area known as Garganta da Diabo, which literally means “Devil’s Throat.”
The victims were aboard a boat that was returning to land after a party when it was hit by a large wave.
The pilot of the vessel, who was not identified, told the police that he tried to help the people who fell off the boat, but he could only retrieve a few survivors.
According to an article published by the International Business Times, one of the survivors, who was identified as Vanessa Audrey da Silva, had to put on her life vest immediately after the boat started to sink.
She was able to stay above water until help arrived.
