The police are looking for the truck driver who dropped a metal tool from his vehicle and hit another car’s windshield on a freeway in Melbourne, killing a woman driving.
Mary-Ann Cutajar was 46 years old and from Deer Park. She died when her car was hit by the debris near St. Albans’ Furlong Road exit.
Her family described her as a beautiful soul.
According to Mark Amos, a detective, the object most likely hit the freeway’s divider before it landed on the other side of the road and hit a sedan.
It happened at around 4 pm.
The police have released images of the tool in an attempt to identify the truck involved. Mary Ann Cutajar, the car’s sole occupant, died after the object hit her vehicle.
As a result, the metal component penetrated the car’s windshield and killed her. The police are still searching for the truck’s driver.
It’s believed that the object is a Riv-Nail Driver system, which is a special tool designed to maintain conveyor belts.
This item is part of a system that involves installing rivets to secure clips onto the belts.
It’s not clear if the truck driver was aware of what happened. Amos noted that the police have a minimal description of the vehicle, which is a white tray truck.
The police are trying to piece together the tragic incident to try and provide some answers to the family.
In response to the incident, the truck driver urged other drivers to take extra care when it comes to securing their loads. He also said that people should report any debris that they see on the road.
