According to authorities, the human head discovered in South Florida belonged to a missing teenager.
The man, identified as Victor Castaneda Jr., reportedly went missing on Saturday near a Miami Beach jetty.
His body was not found after an extensive search.
The medical examiner for the Miami-Dade County confirmed on Friday that the remains found near Key Biscayne were those of Castaneda.
According to witnesses, they saw Castaneda struggle in the water while his sister was with him.
A spokesperson for the police said Castaneda was last seen by a good Samaritan, who then went back to look for him.
The exact cause of Castaneda’s death was not released. The police noted that the investigation is still ongoing.
