Another Scorcher on the Way for Major Cities
Get ready for another round of sweltering heat, folks! Capital cities across the country are bracing for a new wave of scorching temperatures this week, with meteorologists warning of heatwaves and storms on the way.
South Australia, ACT, and Victoria First to Feel the Heat
A low-intensity heatwave will sweep through South Australia, including Adelaide, Canberra, and most of the ACT, as well as parts of Tasmania and Victoria from Wednesday to Friday. Temperatures will soar, with Adelaide expecting a high of 37C on Thursday.
Sydney and NSW Next in Line
The heat will then hit south-western, northern, and eastern regions of New South Wales, including Sydney, which is set for a high of 33C and storms on Saturday. The city is still recovering from a heatwave last week that triggered blackout fears due to increased pressure on the power grid.
Melbourne and Victoria to Feel the Heat
While Melbourne isn’t under a heatwave alert, temperatures will still spike on Thursday and Friday, reaching 31C and 33C respectively, with showers developing into Saturday.
Queensland and Western Australia Not Spared
Residents in central, southern, and northern Queensland should also expect heatwave conditions this week, according to the Bureau of Meteorology. Parts of WA’s Pilbara and Kimberley regions, including Broome, will face severe to extreme heatwave conditions for three days from Wednesday.
Temperatures to Soar in Western Australia
Sky News Meteorologist Alison Osborne warned that some regions in central and Western Australia could swelter through temperatures into the 40s. “Looking at the forecast across the country, light showers are expected to gradually clear the south-west of WA,” Osborne said. “Storms are once again on the cards for a broad region of inland NSW and across parts of Queensland and the tropics.”
Adelaide to Sizzle on Thursday
The hot weather will build into Thursday, particularly in Adelaide, which is forecast to hit 37C. Osborne said a high in the Tasman Sea combining with a low in WA is fuelling heat from the north to south of the country.
Storms and Heat to Continue into the Weekend
The heat will drive more wet and unsettled weather into the weekend, with the storm risk increasing in SA on Friday and on Saturday for Australia’s south-east regions. Canberra residents can expect a top of 31C on Thursday and 32C on Friday, before temperatures drop to 25C on Saturday.
Regional Hotspots to Watch
Broome in WA is looking at a top of 35C on Wednesday, followed by 36C on both Thursday and Friday, with a chance of thunderstorms to round off the week. The mining town of Paraburdoo in the Pilbara region could reach a blistering 46C on Saturday.
