Get ready to meet the Australian sprinting prodigy who’s taking the world by storm!
Gout Gout, a 16-year-old Australian sprinter, has etched his name in the record books and athletics folklore with an incredible performance at the Australian All Schools Athletics Championship.
A Blistering 100m Run
Gout kicked off the day with a stunning 100m run, clocking an incredible 10.04 seconds. Although the result won’t be officially recognized due to an illegal tailwind of 3.4m/s, it’s still an jaw-dropping achievement. To put it into perspective, it’s the fifth fastest time by an Australian in history in any conditions!
A Second Chance to Shine
But Gout wasn’t done yet. He went on to run a second incredible time of 10.17 in the final, officially breaking Australian and Oceania records. This time is equal 17th fastest in history in the Oceania region, and sixth fastest of all-time by an under-18 athlete in the world.
Racing to the Top
Gout’s unofficial time of 10.04 has only been bettered by a handful of athletes, including American Erriyon Knighton (9.99) and Thailand’s Puripol Boonson (10.02). His official time of 10.17 puts him in the company of legendary sprinters like Usain Bolt.
Chasing Records and Dreams
Speaking after the result, Gout said he’s been chasing the national under-18 record held by Sebastian Sultana. “I’ve been chasing this national record for a while now! In the heat, I thought I got it but it was a crazy tailwind, so I just did the same thing and got the job done,” he said.
Gout’s next goal is to train with Noah Lyles and his coach Lance Brauman in January, with his sights set on the Tokyo World Championships.
A Family Affair
Gout credits his family for his success, saying they’ve made him “faster.” His parents migrated from South Sudan to Australia, and he’s proud to be representing his country.
Australia’s New Crown Prince of Sprinting
Gout’s performance has left the nation stunned, with sports commentators and fans alike praising his incredible talent. “This kid is going to be an absolute superstar,” said sports reporter Mark Gottlieb. Another fan predicted that Gout will be the most prominent Australian on the planet in five years.
A Year to Remember
Gout’s incredible year has seen him claim silver at the world under-20s championships and break multiple records. His 200m heats and finals are set to take place on Saturday, and we can’t wait to see what this talented teenager has in store for us.
This is just the beginning for Gout Gout, and we’re excited to see him take the world of athletics by storm!
