A New Chapter for the Oppenheimer Star
Emma Dumont, the talented actor from the upcoming film Oppenheimer, has just made a big announcement: they identify as a transmasculine, non-binary person.
The star, who now goes by they/them pronouns, shared the update on their Instagram account, where they also revealed their new name, Nick Dumont.
What Does Transmasculine Mean?
If you’re not familiar with the term transmasculine, don’t worry! It’s a label used to describe people who were assigned female at birth but whose gender identity or expression is masculine, although not necessarily male.
And, fun fact: a transmasculine person can also identify as non-binary, and vice versa.
Getting to Know Nick Dumont
Although Emma (or should we say, Nick?) hasn’t spoken further about their coming out, fans have been getting a glimpse of their new look. Back in May, they debuted a fresh pixie cut, which they showed off on Instagram with a caption that read, “Your favorite sweetheart’s favorite sweetheart”.
A Star on the Rise
The 30-year-old actor has already made a name for themselves in Hollywood, starring alongside Cillian Murphy in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, as well as on Marvel’s The Gifted TV series and NBC’s Aquarius. And, they’ve got more in store for us! Dumont is expected to appear in the upcoming horror thriller New Me, although a release date has yet to be announced.
Paving the Way for Others
Emma Dumont isn’t the first actor to identify as non-binary. The Crown’s Emma Corrin has also come out as non-binary and has spoken about their experience. Corrin believes that speaking their truth is the first step to creating change, saying, “It feels impossible to know where to start to enact the change that needs to be done, but by taking up space, by being visible, that’s something in itself.”
What’s Next for Nick Dumont?
As Dumont continues to share their journey with the world, fans are eagerly waiting to see what’s next for this talented star. One thing is for sure: with their courage and authenticity, Nick Dumont is paving the way for others to do the same.
