If you’re scared of flying, you might want to take a deep breath before reading this.
A Qantas flight was forced to make a “priority landing” on Tuesday, and the video footage of the incident is downright terrifying.
The Flight Takes a Scary Turn
Qantas flight QF1929 took off from Brisbane Airport at around 8:20 am, bound for Adelaide. But just 40 minutes into the flight, something went wrong, and the plane had to turn back. The reason? A mechanical issue with the landing gear brakes.
“Heads Down!” – The Panic Inside the Plane
As the plane began its emergency landing, the flight attendants sprang into action, yelling out instructions to passengers. “Stay down, heads down!” one attendant can be heard shouting in a video posted on social media. The footage shows passengers crouched down in the brace position, their faces etched with fear.
Standard Procedure, But Still Terrifying
It’s worth noting that this is standard practice in situations like this, where there’s an issue with the landing gear. But that doesn’t make it any less terrifying for the passengers on board. One man can be seen putting his hand to his head as the flight attendant continues to call out instructions.
What Went Wrong?
According to a Qantas spokesperson, the issue was with the landing gear brakes. “A flight from Brisbane to Adelaide returned to Brisbane shortly after takeoff due to an issue with landing gear brakes,” the spokesperson said. “The aircraft landed normally and is being checked by engineers.”
Pilots Notified, But Brakes Didn’t Fail
It’s understood that the pilots were notified of a park brake indication issue, but thankfully, the brakes didn’t fail. The aircraft is set to be checked by engineers before being returned to service.
Qantas Responds
In a statement, Qantas said, “We understand that this would have been a distressing experience for customers and we thank them for following the instructions of the crew.” The airline is working to get customers on their way as quickly as possible and will follow up with all customers to provide support.
The good news is that everyone on board is safe, and the plane landed safely back in Brisbane. But this incident is sure to leave many passengers shaken.
