The Search is Over!
Just days after Matt Doran’s emotional farewell, the Seven Network has announced his replacement on Weekend Sunrise.
Say hello to David Woiwod, who will join Monique Wright as the new co-host of the popular weekend breakfast show from this Saturday onwards.
A Familiar Face Returns
David Woiwod is no stranger to Weekend Sunrise viewers. For four years, he appeared on the show as a reporter before becoming 7News’s US Bureau Chief, based in LA for the last five years. Now, he’s back in Australia and ready to take on the new challenge.
From the World Stage to Weekend Mornings
As a seasoned journalist, Woiwod has covered some of the world’s biggest events. He’s confident that his experience as a foreign correspondent has prepared him for the demands of the Weekend Sunrise gig. “Five years on the road has prepared me for the major stories, early hours, and bad coffee that 3am starts demand – I’m excited and ready,” he said in a statement.
A Full Circle Moment
Woiwod is thrilled to return to the Sunrise family and work alongside Monique Wright, whom he describes as “the most talented, generous, hilarious, and wickedly smart person to work with.” He’s looking forward to “riding her coattails until the bosses notice.”
A Privilege to Be in Aussie Homes
Woiwod is aware of the privilege it is to be invited into Australians’ homes on precious weekend mornings. “Aussies lead busy lives, so to be part of their weekend routine is a privilege not lost on me,” he said.
Matt Doran’s Emotional Farewell
Last Sunday marked Matt Doran’s final appearance on Weekend Sunrise, a gig he held for five years. In an emotional on-air statement, he thanked the crew and his co-hosts, including Monique Wright, who couldn’t hold back her tears.
A New Chapter for Matt Doran
Doran announced his decision to leave Weekend Sunrise two weeks ago, citing a need to focus on family and other opportunities. “I want to share with you a decision I’ve made… and that is, after five years at Weekend Sunrise, I will be finishing up at the end of the year,” he said.
A Big Thank You to Viewers
Doran expressed his gratitude to the show’s viewers, saying it was a “monstrous honour” to be part of their weekend routine. “I need to take a moment to emphatically and wholeheartedly thank you, our viewers, for allowing me into your loungerooms for the last half-decade,” he added.
