Double Murder Mystery Unfolds in Sydney’s Botany
A shocking discovery in bushland at Sir Joseph Banks Park in Botany last Monday has led to a complex and intriguing investigation. The body of 33-year-old Zhuojun “Sally” Li was found by a member of the public, sparking a massive police probe.
The Search for Clues
Fast forward to last Saturday, and detectives finally identified the victim as Sally Li. But that was just the beginning. They also revealed that they were on the hunt for her husband, Jai-Bao “Rex” Chen, also 33. The police were convinced that Rex was linked to Sally’s death, but they didn’t know where he was or what had happened to him.
A Second Body Found
In a dramatic twist, police found a second body in Botany on Tuesday afternoon. While they couldn’t confirm the identity immediately, Superintendent Danny Doherty hinted that there was a “strong likelihood” the body belonged to Rex Chen.
Targeted Double Murder
As the investigation unfolded, police began to piece together the evidence. They believe that at least two people, likely from Taiwan and China, were involved in the deaths. Superintendent Doherty described the crime as a “targeted double murder,” with the victims being deliberately chosen and killed.
The Toyota Avensis Connection
Police have zeroed in on a Toyota Avensis, which they believe was used to transport and dump the bodies. The car is currently undergoing forensic examination, and detectives are hopeful that it will yield crucial evidence.
Rex Chen’s Family Notified
As the investigation continued, police reached out to Rex Chen’s family in Taiwan to inform them of the latest developments. The news must have come as a devastating blow to the family, who were already worried sick about Rex’s disappearance.
The Backstory
So, what do we know about the victims? Both Sally and Rex lived together in Greenacre and had not been seen since the end of November. Sally was reported missing earlier this month after her mother failed to reach her. Police immediately treated her disappearance as a homicide, and now it seems that their worst fears have been confirmed.
The Hunt for a Third Party
Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said that police were looking into the possibility of a third person being involved in the murders. “We have to have an open mind and look at a third party possibly involved, not only in the suspected murder of Sally but also in the disappearance of Rex,” he said.
The Investigation So Far
As the police dig deeper, they’re exploring all possibilities. They’ve been making inquiries in Sydney, interstate, and with the Commonwealth to see if Rex may have traveled domestically or overseas. While they’re not ruling out the possibility that Rex may have left the country, Superintendent Doherty confirmed that “Rex is onshore, he hasn’t left the country.”
The Question on Everyone’s Mind
The million-dollar question is, of course, whether Rex is alive or dead. Only time will tell. The State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad has established Strike Force Zygon to investigate, and they’ll leave no stone unturned in their quest for the truth.
