A Celebration Turned Deadly
An Australian business owner’s life was cut short in Thailand after a night of revelry at a full moon party.
Christopher Stephen Boucher, a 44-year-old expat from Sydney’s northern beaches, was found dead on the steps of a 7-Eleven convenience store on Monday morning.
The Party That Ended in Tragedy
The full moon party, held on Koh Phangan island, is notorious for its wild celebrations, where partygoers drink from buckets and let loose under minimal supervision. It’s unclear what exactly happened, but authorities believe Boucher had hired a local driver to take him back to his hotel around 6:30 am. However, he never made it. His body was discovered near an ATM, with police suspecting he was trying to withdraw cash to pay the driver.
The Investigation Unfolds
Police are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the driver and understand why they abandoned Boucher. According to Lieutenant Colonel Arun, “Officers are checking CCTV to find out who took the tourist back and why they left.” Boucher’s body was found with a plastic drinking bottle and his NSW driver’s license.
A Life Cut Short
Boucher, originally from Kent, was the owner of Northern Beaches Cleaning Service, which he ran from his home in Manly. Those who knew him described him as a “beautiful man” who “worked his socks off” for his clients. Online reviews of his business paint a picture of a hardworking and dedicated individual.
The Mystery Surrounding His Death
While there were no signs of assault, authorities believe Boucher may have died from alcohol poisoning or an overdose. His blood test results are still pending. Witnesses reported seeing him visibly exhausted and drunk at Hat Rin Beach, where the party was held.
As the investigation continues, the community is left to mourn the loss of a life cut short in a tragic and unexpected way.
