Unfortunate Incident at Unpatrolled Beach
A devastating incident occurred at Werri Beach in Gerringong, near Kiama, on the state’s south coast, when a 66-year-old woman was found unresponsive in the water.
Emergency Services Rush to the Scene
At approximately 9:10 am on Saturday, December 21, 2024, emergency services received a distress call, and officers from Lake Illawarra Police District rushed to the unpatrolled part of Werri Beach.
Upon arrival, they found members of the public and local surf club members performing CPR on the woman, who had been pulled from the surf.
Despite Efforts, Woman Couldn’t Be Saved
NSW Ambulance paramedics took over the CPR efforts, but unfortunately, the 66-year-old woman couldn’t be revived. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is a stark reminder of the importance of beach safety, especially during peak summer season.
Investigation Underway
A report will be prepared for the Coroner to provide more insight into the incident. As the investigation unfolds, it’s essential to acknowledge the efforts of the public and local surf club members who tried to save the woman’s life.
