Sam Kerr, one of Australia’s most beloved soccer stars, is reeling after her 89-year-old grandmother, Coral Kerr, was struck by a car in Perth’s southeast on Friday.
The incident has left the elderly woman in a critical condition, and the community is in shock.
What Happened?
According to eyewitnesses, Coral Kerr was getting off a bus in Palmyra just before 11 am when a 63-year-old driver allegedly mounted the curb and hit her. Witnesses claim the driver was trying to overtake the bus and struck a power pole just before hitting Ms. Kerr, leaving several homes without power.
Eyewitness Accounts
Neighbours who rushed to Ms. Kerr’s side described the scene as chaotic. “A bus pulled up at the bus stop, and there was a line of traffic, but this chap must have got very impatient and decided he’d pull out and go down on the footpath,” said neighbour Florence Mudge.
Another local, Mary Ivey, added, “She really wasn’t responding too much, she was very sweaty and clammy, and then she started… I think she was in shock obviously.”
The Area’s History of Crashes
Locals say the area is a hot spot for crashes, but this accident is the worst they’ve ever seen. “This accident is the worst one we’ve ever seen here,” said Gilbert Anderson.
Update on Coral Kerr’s Condition
Fortunately, a hospital spokesman reported that Ms. Kerr’s condition has improved, and she is now in a serious but stable condition. Sam Kerr’s father, Roger Kerr, is flying to Western Australia from the east coast to be with his mother.
The Family’s Story
Coral Kerr moved to Australia from India with her husband over 50 years ago. The family’s story is one of love and resilience, and the community is rallying behind them during this difficult time.
