A tragic accident occurred on Sunday at Clamshell Falls, a popular swimming hole in Wooroonooran National Park, about 75 kilometres south of Cairns.
A 55-year-old man fell approximately five metres from the top of the waterfall, resulting in fatal injuries.
Emergency Services Rush to the Scene
Emergency services received a call at around 1:30pm on Sunday after a person was reported missing in the water at Clamshell Falls. A search and rescue operation was launched, and the man was located at around 2:30pm.
Rescue Efforts Prove Futile
Unfortunately, despite being rescued, the man suffered life-threatening injuries from being in the water for an extended period. Medical assistance was provided, but sadly, he was declared deceased at the scene.
A Tragic Repeat of History
This tragic incident is eerily similar to an accident in 2019, where a 58-year-old man slipped and fell at the same location, resulting in his death.
