A South Australian man, Jacob Vennix, 32, has tragically lost his life on his honeymoon in Bali, leaving his new wife Kimberley Ann Fuller, 38, devastated.
The couple was swimming at Pasut Beach, about 30 kilometers west of Denpasar, when a strong current swept Vennix out to sea on Monday afternoon.
Desperate Attempt to Save Her Husband
Fuller desperately tried to get people’s attention to help her husband, even trying to enter the water with a chair to rescue him. However, despite her bravery, Vennix was too far gone, and she was forced to watch as he struggled to stay afloat.
Locals Rush to the Rescue
Luckily, some locals, Ketut Arsanayasa and Made Suartika, rushed out to help Vennix on a boat. They managed to get close to him, allowing him to grab hold of the boat. However, a massive wave engulfed the boat, causing Vennix to lose his grip and leaving him unconscious.
Heartbreaking End
Despite efforts to revive him, Vennix was pronounced dead upon arrival at Tabanan General Hospital at 5:20 pm local time. The news has sent shockwaves through the community, with Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong offering her condolences to the grieving family.
A Dangerous Beach
The swimming conditions at Pasut Beach are known to be hazardous, with strong currents and waves making it prone to accidents. Bali’s Disaster Management Agency has warned locals and tourists to exercise caution when swimming in the area.
A Short but Happy Life
Vennix’s tragic passing comes just nine days after he tied the knot with Ms. Fuller on December 21. The couple had a beautiful ceremony in Adelaide, and their Facebook posts show a happy and loving relationship. Vennix leaves behind his wife, one-year-old son Cole, who suffers from bilateral optic nerve hypoplasia, and four-year-old stepson Isaac.
