A devastating jetski accident has occurred north of Cairns, resulting in the death of a 56-year-old man.
The incident happened on Friday morning at around 10am on the Barron River, near the Stratford Boat Ramp.
What Happened?
The man and a 60-year-old woman, both from the suburb of Brinsmead in Cairns, were riding a jetski when they crashed into mangroves.
The impact was severe, ejecting both riders into the water. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, who treated them at the scene, the man was sadly declared dead.
Investigation Underway
The forensic crash unit is currently investigating the incident to determine the cause of the accident. The Queensland police are working to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy.
A report will be prepared for the coroner as part of the ongoing investigation.
Woman Survives with Injuries
The 60-year-old woman involved in the accident was taken to Cairns Hospital with shoulder and chest injuries.
Fortunately, she is in a stable condition, according to the Queensland Ambulance Service. Our thoughts are with her and the family of the deceased during this difficult time.
