The region is expecting a week of rain showers and thunderstorms, putting an end to the recent New Year heatwave.
Cooler Temperatures Ahead
The heatwave that had been gripping the area has finally fizzled out, and temperatures are expected to be much cooler than they have been. Today and tomorrow, central and eastern NSW can expect highs of 24 degrees, a whopping 10 degrees cooler than the weekend.
Severe Storms on the Way
According to BOM Meteorologist Dean Narramore, some of the storms could be severe. “Some of those storms could be severe,” he warned. So, make sure to stay up to date with the latest weather forecast and plan your day accordingly.
What to Expect this Week
The rain and thunderstorms will linger throughout the week, with temperatures gradually warming up towards the weekend. By the weekend, temperatures are expected to reach 29 degrees, but the showers will still be around.
Bushfire Risk in Western Australia
Meanwhile, in south-western Western Australia, storms will bring a risk of bushfires. The region can expect severe storms and elevated fire dangers, with a fire warning issued for Midwest Inland, Yarra Yarra, Mortlock, and Karroun.
Hot and Dry Conditions in Queensland
In contrast, the rest of Queensland will be dry but hot, with temperatures inland reaching 43 degrees around Birdsville. Brisbane can expect showers to move in from Wednesday, hanging around until the weekend.
Sunshine in Adelaide and Melbourne
If you’re in Adelaide or Melbourne, you can expect a sunny week ahead, with temperatures reaching the low 30s. So, make the most of the good weather and enjoy the outdoors.
