Imagine walking into your favorite McDonald’s, ready to sink your teeth into a juicy burger and crispy fries. But, what if you were greeted by some uninvited guests – cockroaches and maggots?
That’s exactly what happened at a McDonald’s restaurant in Broadmeadow, NSW.
The Creepy-Crawly Infestation
Exclusive footage released by newy.com.au shows a plethora of cockroaches and maggots making themselves at home inside the restaurant.
The creepy-crawlies were spotted in the fries warmer, on the floor, and even in a dustpan.
One customer who witnessed the footage was immediately turned off his food, saying “I couldn’t be f**ed going back in, I’m already late, and that video has ruined my dinner.”
Customers React with Disgust
The footage sparked a heated reaction on Facebook, with many customers vowing to avoid the restaurant altogether. “I won’t be going there to buy food anymore,” one commenter wrote.
However, some people pointed out that cockroaches are a common problem in many hospitality venues, especially when “teenagers” are employed.
“Why is everyone so shocked? These stores are run by teens that can’t even clean their bedrooms, as if they are going to know anything about food safety standards,” one person noted.
McDonald’s Response
A McDonald’s spokesperson apologized for the incident, saying “We are disappointed to see these images. This clearly falls short of McDonald’s strict food safety, quality and hygiene standards.”
The company has taken immediate action, including a thorough professional pest inspection and installation of additional pest control measures.
Not the First Time
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time McDonald’s has faced hygiene concerns. In May last year, a Queensland employee was caught drying a mop head under the restaurant’s fries warmer, just centimeters away from food.
The company insisted it was an “isolated incident,” but it’s clear that more needs to be done to ensure customer safety and satisfaction.
What’s Next?
The incident serves as a reminder that food safety and hygiene should always be a top priority. As one customer joked, “So that’s where the flavor comes from.” While the incident is certainly disturbing, it’s also a wake-up call for McDonald’s to review its cleaning procedures and ensure that its customers can enjoy their meals without any unwanted guests.
