Sydney Airport has just given its dedicated pet bathrooms a fresh new look, and travelers are going wild!
The upgraded facilities, which were first introduced in 2020, have been praised by passengers as “excellent” for disability support animals, canine units, and guide dogs.
What’s New?
The renovated pet bathrooms, located at both the domestic and international terminals, have caught the attention of social media users who think it’s “about time” the airport adopted this “great idea”.
Many are even calling for these facilities to be rolled out at all major Australian airports.
Currently, there are two pet bathrooms at the domestic terminal and one at the international terminal, but they’re only available for registered assistance animals.
The Future of Pets in Air Travel
This upgrade comes as Virgin Australia prepares to trial pets in cabins on domestic flights in 2025.
The airline plans to allow small pets, like cats and dogs, to travel with their owners in the cabin, provided they’re in approved carriers that fit under the seat.
While pets will remain in their carriers throughout the flight, this new service promises to make air travel more convenient and stress-free for pet owners.
How Will it Work?
Designated seating areas will be introduced to accommodate pets, ensuring a comfortable experience for all passengers.
The program will initially launch as a trial on select domestic routes, including the popular Melbourne-Sydney corridor.
And, as you might expect, there will be an additional fee for this service, estimated to be between $100 and $150 per flight.
What Do Disability Advocates Say?
Disability advocates and travel enthusiasts are praising Sydney Airport’s initiative, with many saying it’s “fantastic” and “about time” more places accommodated service and therapy dogs.
Some are even hoping that this will pave the way for pets to be allowed on flights, just like in the USA and Europe.
The Verdict
Sydney Airport’s pet bathroom upgrade is a pawsome step in the right direction, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for pets in air travel.
