The South West Queensland music scene is reeling in shock after the sudden loss of beloved musician, Luke Nash.
Nash, who was known for his incredible talent and generous spirit, passed away on Friday, January 10, leaving behind a community that is mourning his tragic death.
A Life of Music and Kindness
Nash was a staple in the region’s music scene, playing gigs from Warwick to Dalby and everywhere in between.
But he was more than just a musician – he was a kind and generous soul who touched the lives of everyone he met.
Friend Emma Hope remembers Nash as a “generous and kind” man who always had a smile on his face and a song in his heart.
“He had this amazing ability to make everyone feel welcome and included,” she said. “He was the type of person who would always try to cheer you up, no matter what was going on in your life.”
A Man of Many Talents
Nash was a multi-talented individual who loved music, food, and poker. He was a skilled solo guitarist and a talented wedding singer, but he was also a security guard and a devoted family man.
His love of food was legendary, and he was always willing to try new things – including snails! But it was his kindness and generosity that really set him apart.
“He was the kind of person who would always put others before himself,” said Hope. “He volunteered his time to help others, and he was always there to lend a listening ear.”
Outpouring of Tributes
The news of Nash’s passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes from across the region.
A post on the Nash Music Facebook page has garnered almost 1000 reactions and over 250 comments, with friends and fans sharing their memories and condolences.
“Heartbreaking news, a great bloke and a great talent lost too soon in our corner of Queensland,” wrote Boyd Ridley Music. “Nash, you were a very talented, very kind and always humble man.
I’ll miss seeing you around. Thank you for the music and memories. RIP,” said Ian Wickham.
Supporting Nash’s Son
Nash’s son was the light of his life, and his friends are now rallying around to support him.
A GoFundMe has been set up to raise money for the young boy’s future, with proceeds going towards his schooling, counselling, and other expenses.
“Nash would want us to take care of his son,” said Hope. “He was a devoted father, and he would want us to make sure his son is okay.”
A memorial event has also been organised for February 23 at the Blue Mountain Hotel, featuring a charity poker game, live music, and activities for kids.
Celebrating Nash’s Life
The memorial event will be a celebration of Nash’s life, with all the things he loved – music, food, poker, and family.
Three musicians from the Darling Downs will perform, and the Blue Mountain Hotel will have its smoker fired up to serve up some of Nash’s favourite foods.
It’s a chance for the community to come together and remember a man who touched so many lives.
“Nash would want us to celebrate his life, not mourn his death,” said Hope. “He would want us to come together and support each other, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.”
