A shocking incident has unfolded in Alice Springs, where a 51-year-old woman was found dead near the Todd River overnight.
A 49-year-old man, believed to be her partner, has been arrested in connection with her death.
What Happened?
According to Northern Territory police, the man reported the incident to authorities around 12:20 am on Monday, stating that a woman was unresponsive near the riverbed.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, performing CPR on the woman, but sadly, she was declared dead a short time later.
Investigation Underway
Police have arrested the man, who remains in custody, and are treating the incident as a homicide.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Peter Malley confirmed that a weapon was used, but it was not an edged weapon.
The police are working to piece together the events surrounding the woman’s death and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
