A birthday party turned into a nightmare when a house fire broke out, claiming the life of an infant and leaving another child fighting for their life.
The incident occurred on Sunday at a residence in Rokeyby, where friends and family had gathered to celebrate five-year-old Jordan’s special day.
The Fateful Morning
Emergency crews rushed to the property on Benboyd Circle, only to find the house engulfed in flames with people still trapped inside.
Tasmania Fire Service crews arrived at the scene, describing the home as “fully alight”.
Despite their efforts to rescue those in danger, an infant was found deceased within the property.
A Family’s Worst Nightmare
The infant who lost her life has been identified as one-year-old Harlyn, Jordan’s younger sister.
Another young child and an adult were taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious injuries.
Three other children were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The family’s world has been shattered, with a friend describing them as “broken”.
A Community in Mourning
Tenille Siely, a close family friend, took to social media to express her grief, saying: “One beautiful baby girl has lost her life, and her sister is fighting to survive.
The house and all its contents are gone, leaving the family with nothing.” The incident has left the community in shock, with many rallying around the family to offer support.
Investigation and Fundraising Efforts
The Tasmania Fire Service is investigating the cause of the fire, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
In the meantime, a GoFundMe page has been launched to support the family, with funds raised going towards the funeral and helping them get back on their feet.
As the family navigates this unimaginable tragedy, they can count on the support of their community to help them through this difficult time.
