The program is designed to incentivize high-performing leaders and foster a “guest-obsessed” culture that encourages customer loyalty. “It’s crucial to us to have a really strong leader in every single restaurant,” Mr. Green explained.
“The most important person in our organisation is the customer, and the next most important are the ones with the direct contact to the customer. So investing in our restaurant managers means we can run great restaurants.”
How Much Can You Earn as a Hungry Jack’s Restaurant Manager?
The GMP offers managers a base salary ranging from $95,000 to $130,000. But that’s not all – with performance bonuses and profit-sharing opportunities up to $100,000, their earning potential can be up to $200,000.
And in some rare cases, managers can even earn over $300,000 a year. “Our target compensation for our restaurant managers is between $100-200k,” Mr. Green shared, “but we’ve actually had some people over $200k and even somebody over $300k one year.”
What Makes Hungry Jack’s Different?
Unlike other fast-food chains like McDonald’s, KFC, and Subway, which are mostly franchised, Hungry Jack’s is only 15% franchised. This means that the company has more control over its operations and can invest more in its staff.
“Most others are basically 100% franchised,” Mr. Green explained. “So in a way, what we’re trying to promote is the idea of ‘Think, act, and get paid like a franchisee without the investment’, and so it is a very generous salary.”

So what does it take to be a successful restaurant manager at Hungry Jack’s?
The role involves overseeing teams of 50 to 100 employees, hiring and training staff, ensuring top-notch customer service, maintaining restaurant cleanliness, and creating profit and loss statements. It’s a challenging job, but the rewards are well worth it. “We expect a lot from our people,” Mr. Green said.
Hungry Jack’s Expansion Strategy
The company is on a mission to close the gap with its competitors, with plans to open 20 to 25 new locations each year over the next five years. This will bring the total number of restaurants to 600.
But it’s not just about building new stores – Hungry Jack’s is also focused on upgrading its existing locations, with around 40-50 restaurants undergoing refurbishment each year.
The company is also embracing digital innovation, with plans to modernize its mobile app and self-order kiosks, and even pilot AI voice-ordering technology in the not-so-distant future.
