A Life Cut Too Short
The Perth surfing community is coming together to remember one of their own.
Ash Mangano, the former City Beach Surfriders Club president and beloved Floreat local, tragically passed away last Thursday at just 42 years old.
The news of his unexpected death has sent shockwaves through both local and international surfing circles.
“Everyone Loved Ash”
Speaking to PerthNow, Ash’s brother Justin, who now calls the US home, shared heartwarming memories of the man everyone seemed to love.
“He wasn’t just a huge surfer – he was someone the entire Perth surfing community knew and cherished,” Justin said.
“It’s amazing how even people who only met Ash briefly speak so highly of him. He just had this natural gift for connecting with others.”
Childhood Memories on the Waves
Remember those perfect beach mornings as a kid? For the Mangano brothers, they were extra special.
“We’d hop on our bikes with surfboards strapped to the back, hoping to catch some good waves,” Justin recalled with a smile. “Those early morning surf sessions are memories I’ll treasure forever.”
A Community Comes Together
The City Beach Surfriders Club is turning grief into action, organizing a special paddle-out tribute this Saturday at 10am at City Beach.
It’s not just about remembering Ash – it’s about continuing his legacy of bringing people together.
More Than Just a Memorial
Justin emphasized how this tribute carries an important message about mental health, especially for Australian men.
“We want to encourage guys to open up and talk about their feelings,” he shared.
“The surfing community has always been about supporting each other, and that’s exactly what Ash would have wanted.”
