A horrific incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Leichhardt, Sydney’s inner west, where a woman was brutally mauled by her own dog.
Neighbours reported hearing the 47-year-old woman’s desperate screams for help coming from an upstairs window, prompting them to call emergency services.
The Chaotic Scene Unfolds
The woman’s downstairs neighbour described the chaotic scene, saying, “I could hear her at the window screaming out for help, like she was being attacked.
You could hear the kid and the mum both screaming for help, and the fire alarm going off, and the dog barking a little. We called triple-0, but we weren’t actually sure what was going on.”
The neighbour saw the woman being taken out to the ambulance with a towel or cloth shirt wrapped around her face, which was seriously injured in the attack.
A Tragic Incident
The dog, believed to be a Saint Bernard-cross, was still on the premises after the attack. A neighbour who lives next door expressed sympathy for both the dog and its owner, saying, “It’s not the dog’s fault… I’m feeling sorry for the dog and her… she’s lovely.
I’m interested to see if she’s OK.” The Inner West Council has launched an investigation into the incident.
What Happened?
The attack occurred just before 12:30 am on Wednesday at the woman’s home on Edith St in Leichhardt.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, and the woman was taken to the hospital in a serious condition with significant facial injuries.
The incident has left the community in shock, with many wondering how such a tragedy could occur.
