From Public Housing to Prime Real Estate: Anthony Albanese’s Luxurious Life as a Landlord
You might be surprised to know that Australia’s Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, has come a long way from his humble beginnings in public housing.
While he currently resides in The Lodge, he’s also the proud owner of not one, but two properties: a beautiful federation bungalow in Sydney and a stunning $4.3 million clifftop mansion in Copacabana on the NSW Central Coast.
Raking in the Rent
According to recent updates to his official register of interests, Mr. Albanese is now earning “rental income” from the four-bedroom, three-bathroom beachside property, which could bring in an estimated $1000 a week. That’s a pretty penny!
And if you think that’s impressive, his Sydney bungalow, valued at around $2 million, is reportedly earning him around $1350 a week.
That’s a total of $122,000 a year in rent, on top of his annual parliamentary salary of $564,356. Talk about a comfortable income!
A Life of Luxury
But what’s got people talking is the fact that Mr. Albanese dropped $4.3 million on the Copacabana property last year, just as the country was grappling with a cost-of-living crisis.
Many Aussies were struggling to afford their own homes, and the Prime Minister’s purchase sparked fierce backlash.
At the time, Mr. Albanese defended his decision, saying he knows “what it’s like to struggle” having grown up in public housing.
He emphasized his commitment to increasing public housing and social housing investment, ensuring that everyone can have a roof over their head.
A Cycle of Controversy
Despite his good intentions, Mr. Albanese seems to be trapped in a cycle of controversy, with his personal life and financial decisions making headlines instead of his policy announcements.
As one critic put it, “Mr. Clifftop Mansion needs to stop making himself the story.” The Opposition Leader, Peter Dutton, weighed in on the issue, saying that while he wishes the Prime Minister well, his focus is on helping everyday Aussies who are struggling to afford their mortgages.
What Do You Think?
As the Federal election looms, Mr. Albanese’s financial situation is sure to be under scrutiny. Do you think his luxurious lifestyle is at odds with his commitment to helping everyday Australians?
Share your thoughts in the comments! With his combined income from rent and salary, Mr. Albanese is earning a whopping $686,556 a year before tax.
It’s a far cry from his humble beginnings, and one can’t help but wonder what the future holds for this unlikely landlord.
