The desperate search for 60-year-old Adam Yunkaporta, who went missing in Queensland’s far north, has taken a devastating turn.
One week after he was last seen leaving his home to go fishing, the search efforts have shifted from rescue to recovery.
What Happened to Adam Yunkaporta?
Adam was last seen on January 30, around midday, when he left his home in Aurukun to go fishing near the mouth of the Ward, Watson, and Archer rivers.
Despite an extensive search involving police, volunteers, helicopters, drones, wildlife rangers, and community members, no sign of him has been found.
The Search Efforts Continue
The search party has been working tirelessly, scouring the river and surrounding areas.
On February 5, police met with the Aurukun Shire Council and Adam’s family to update them on the search area.
The police have now informed the community that the search has moved to a recovery phase, using gathered intelligence and proven search and rescue techniques.
A Warning to Locals
As the search continues, locals are being warned to avoid the boat ramp near the search area, as police and wildlife officers conduct searches of the rivers.
The community is thanked for their cooperation, and the search will press on.
