A disturbing discovery was made in a Sydney suburb after a recorded prison phone call led police to a home in Marrickville, where they found a baby’s foetus inside a freezer.
How it Happened
The shocking find came after corrective services staff intercepted a call between an inmate and a woman, discussing the remains being stored in a bag in a freezer at a Marrickville home.
Prison officers immediately alerted NSW Police, who raided the home and executed a warrant.
Detectives located a bag in the freezer containing what is believed to be a foetus, which was then taken to Glebe Morgue for further examination.
Investigation Underway
The Frazer Street home where the remains were found is not believed to be the residence of the baby’s mother. Following examination, police confirmed that the foetus is less than 20 weeks gestation.
A crime scene was established, and Strike Force Canfield was launched to investigate the incident.
However, as the foetus was still in the first trimester, inquiries are now focused on supporting the baby’s mother, and no further police investigation is underway.
Possible Link to Previous Discovery
The investigation is exploring a possible link between the foetus found in Marrickville and the discovery of an umbilical cord and placenta last May in Earlwood, just 3km away.
Despite multiple public appeals for information, the mother and baby from the Earlwood case remain unidentified.
Forensic testing had determined that the placenta found in Earlwood was from a boy.
A Disturbing Trend
The discovery has raised concerns about the well-being of the baby’s mother and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The case has sparked a wave of concern and outrage in the community, with many calling for greater support and resources for expectant mothers.
