A massive three-vehicle crash is causing huge traffic delays on the main road linking Sydney and Wollongong.
If you’re planning to travel between the two cities today, be prepared for a long wait.
The accident happened on the Princes Highway at Waterfall around 6:10 am, with emergency services rushing to the scene.
According to police, the impact was so severe that it pushed one of the vehicles through a fence and towards railway tracks.
Luckily, Sutherland Shire police, paramedics, and firefighters are on the scene to handle the situation.
Traffic Delays and Diversions
If you’re heading south, be aware that the southbound lanes of the highway are closed, and traffic diversions are in place.
These diversions are expected to remain in place for some time, so plan your route accordingly.
On the bright side, one northbound lane is still open, but be prepared for slow traffic.
Sydney Train Passengers Face Delays Too
To make matters worse, Sydney train passengers are also facing disruptions today due to planned industrial action by rail workers.
Trains will be running 23 kilometers per hour slower than usual, which means longer travel times for everyone. According to Transport for NSW, all lines will be affected, but Sydney’s inner-city services will bear the brunt of the disruptions.
Jaz Tumber from SydneyTrains warned that the South Coast line is heavily impacted, with only one train operating currently.
“There are very, very limited trains, I think only one operating from my understanding heading towards the city,” he said.
“Four buses are operating as rail replacement, so it is very limited in terms of the service options.” Commuters can expect lengthy delays, so make sure to check your route before heading out.
Remember to check for updates before you travel, and consider alternative routes to avoid the traffic chaos.
