As the country awaits the official announcement of the federal election date, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton is confident that he can beat Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
Despite being the underdog, Dutton believes that the current government’s handling of the cost of living, housing, health, and energy crises will work in his favor.
A “Mood for Change” in Australia
Dutton has been touring flood-devastated parts of North Queensland, where he expressed his concerns about the government’s response to the crisis.
He also highlighted the need for change, citing the rising cost of living and housing affordability as key issues that the current government has failed to address.
“It’s a housing crisis they’ve created by bringing too many people in and not building enough homes, and that’s why people’s rents have gone up,” he said.
The Odds Are Against Him, But Dutton Remains Hopeful
History is not on Dutton’s side, as a first-term government has not lost a federal election since 1931.
However, he remains optimistic, saying that his party has “a mountain of seats to climb” but he believes they can win.
To do so, Dutton needs to pick up 18 to 21 electorates, a significant challenge considering the current polling numbers.
Nevertheless, he is determined to provide an alternative to the current government, which he believes would be a “disaster” for the country if they were to remain in power.
The Election Date Looms Closer
The federal election must be held on or before May 17, and voters are eagerly awaiting the official announcement of the date.
As the campaign trail heats up, Dutton is slamming the government’s record, saying that they don’t have a good story to tell.
“What story can this government take to the next election to say, ‘here are our achievements, here’s how you and your family are better off after three years of the Albanese government?'” he asked.
What’s Next for Australia?
As the country prepares to head to the polls, one thing is certain: the outcome of the federal election will have a significant impact on Australia’s future.
Will Dutton’s confidence pay off, or will Albanese’s government secure another term?
Only time will tell. Stay tuned for live coverage of the 2025 Federal Election Campaign.
