Billionaire mining magnate Clive Palmer has thrown his hat into the ring, launching a new political party called “Trumpet of Patriots” ahead of this year’s federal election.
And, in a surprising move, he’s promising to adopt many of the policies of US President Donald Trump.
What Does This Mean for Australia?
The Trumpet of Patriots party has already been registered with the Australian Electoral Commission, and Palmer is gearing up to run candidates in the House of Representatives, the Senate, and all Liberal and Teal seats. But what kind of policies can we expect from this new party?
According to their website, they’re all about “commonsense policies for all Australians” and “draining the swamp.”
A New Beginning for Clive Palmer
This new party comes after Palmer’s bid to re-register his United Australia Party was rejected by the High Court just last week.
The United Australia Party was voluntarily deregistered back in September 2022, which would have meant that all candidates would not have been identified under the party on ballot papers.
But with Trumpet of Patriots, Palmer is looking to make a fresh start.
What’s on the Agenda?
While the party hasn’t announced any specific policies yet, Palmer has hinted that they’ll be focusing on issues like gender, immigration, the cost of living, and free speech.
He’s also encouraging voters to get behind the party, saying that this election is “critical to the future of the nation and your family.” According to Palmer, “Our country is barely recognisable” and it’s time for a change.
Who’s Leading the Charge?
Palmer has thrown his support behind former United Australia Party politician Suellen Wrightson as the Trumpet of Patriots’ prime ministerial candidate.
Wrightson will be standing for the seat of Hunter in the House of Representatives. While it’s a long shot, Palmer is confident that his party can make a real difference.
What’s Next?
As the federal election approaches, it’ll be interesting to see how Trumpet of Patriots fares.
Will they be able to gain traction with voters and make a real impact on the political landscape?
Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure – Clive Palmer is not going down without a fight.
