A shocking incident has left a community in stunned silence after a man was fatally stabbed at a hotel in Geelong, Victoria.
The Incident Unfolds
On Wednesday night, at approximately 11:50 pm, police found an 82-year-old man from New Zealand suffering from critical injuries in an upstairs room of the Sir Charles Hotel on Brougham Street.
Tragically, the man had sustained multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Hunt for the Suspect
A 34-year-old man, who was also a guest at the hotel but in a different room, fled the scene.
However, his freedom was short-lived, as he was apprehended several hours later on Thursday afternoon on Elizabeth Street in Melbourne’s CBD.
Charges Laid
The suspect has been charged with murder and made an appearance at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday evening.
Detective Inspector Dean Thomas revealed that the suspect was staying at the hotel, but the motive behind the stabbing and whether the two men knew each other remains a mystery.
