President Donald Trump is calling out government bureaucrats, ordering them to be more transparent about how they spend taxpayer dollars.
In a memo released on Tuesday, Trump told leaders of government agencies to start being “radically transparent” about their spending habits.
What’s the Problem?
The memo claims that the US government spends too much money on programs, contracts, and grants that don’t benefit the American people.
Trump argues that taxpayers have been subsidizing “ideological projects” and “passion projects of unelected bureaucrats” instead of funding projects that advance the national interest.
A New Era of Transparency
To fix this problem, Trump is ordering all heads of executive departments and agencies to make public the details of every terminated program, cancelled contract, and discontinued grant.
This means that taxpayers will finally get to see how their hard-earned money is being spent.
Holding Bureaucrats Accountable
The memo is part of Trump’s broader effort to reduce waste and increase efficiency in the federal government.
His Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) commission is auditing government agencies to root out waste and abuse.
According to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, Trump is delivering on his campaign promise to “drain the swamp” and make government more accountable to the people.
A Promise Kept
Leavitt argues that Trump is the first president to actually follow through on promises to reduce waste and increase transparency.
“President Trump is just the first president in our lifetimes to actually do it,” she said.
“And now you see the Democrat Party and the mainstream media spiraling out of control about a very simple promise: rooting out waste, fraud and abuse from our federal bureaucracy.”
